Subsidised services for pensioners and veterans

Mackay Hearing is accredited to provide free and subsidised hearing services and products to eligible pensioners and veterans under the Australian Government’s Hearing Services Program.

Program inclusions

Eligible recipients receive standard hearing appointments, such as comprehensive diagnostic hearing assessments, hearing aid fittings and follow-ups and annual reviews, for free.

Approved Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) and entry level hearing aids are available for free. Hearing aids with increased levels of technology may be available for free to veterans and at a subsidised cost, to non-veterans. Hearing aid consumables (such as batteries and replaceable parts) and repair of hearing devices are available through a subsidised (and inexpensive) yearly subscription, the contribution amount is set by the Hearing Services Program each year.

Eligibility

If you meet any of the below criteria, you may be eligible. Up to date and full details can be found on the Hearing Services Program website.

You are eligible for the voucher scheme if you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident or live on Norfolk Island, are aged 21 years or older, and: 

Do you:

  •         Hold a Pensioner Concession Card

  •         Hold Veteran’s Gold Card

  •         Hold a Veteran’s White Repatriation Health Card for hearing loss

Are you:

  •         Dependent on someone who holds any of the above

  •         A member of the Australian Defence Force

  •         A member of the Disability Employment Services (DES)

  •         Eligible for NDIS funding

If so, then you may be eligible for Government Hearing Services.

Veterans

If you are a veteran eligible for Hearing Services Program services and devices, you can access additional hearing support from DVA, including:

  • Higher technology level of hearing devices at no cost

  • Assistive listening devices

  • Tinnitus treatment

Mackay Hearing will request approval from DVA on your behalf.

If you are eligible to apply, you can contact Mackay Hearing and we can arrange a hearing services voucher for you, or you can contact the Hearing Services Program on 1800 500 726 or apply online with the Hearing Services Program website.

How to transfer to Mackay Hearing

If you are currently on the Hearing Services Program and wish to access hearing services through Mackay Hearing, we can help you to transfer your hearing voucher to us. Contact Mackay Hearing on 4952 4649 and provide your name, date of birth and pension or DVA card number.
